Description

Jesus meets with doubting Thomas (John 20)
Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

How many of you were given a nickname at school? I remember a boy in my Grade 5 class standing in line to get his book marked when suddenly he wet his pants and everyone started laughing at him. He was given a nickname which he carried all the way to the end of High School. One mistake can get you labelled for life! That’s what happened with one of the disciples
of Jesus.

When I say the name, “Thomas” what nickname springs to mind – “Doubting Thomas”. He’s been wearing this label for 2000 years – you’ll even find “Doubting Thomas” listed in the English dictionary. But “Doubting Thomas” is the definition of all of us.

We come to the 7th and final message in our series: People Jesus Met. Jesus meets Thomas at his point of doubt.

Jesus has been crucified on the cross and buried in a tomb. Miraculously, Jesus rises from the dead on Easter Sunday and appears to the disciples as they gather together, but Thomas isn’t there. So when the other apostles tell him that they have seen the Lord, he refuses to believe them.
