THE WIDER APPLICATION OF JESUS ‘ TEACHING

Description

Paul encourages young Galatian congregations to stand firm in their blood bought freedom by not submitting to certain cultural/church practices and being on their guard against false teachers. These two dangers continually rob the freedom Christians should enjoy. For us today sometimes obeying God for the wrong reason can be as bad as disobeying God. In Paul ‘s mind why we obey God or comply to certain rules can be the difference between slavery and freedom. Our freedom is fragile and can so quickly be threatened and lost. Sometimes we need to be reminded to Stand Firm in our freedom and not submit to any teaching that requires us to do something or be something in order to be loved and accepted by God.

Stand Firm – Keep your Foreskin (Galatians 5:2-6)
If you submit Christ is nothing (Galatians 5:2-4)
If you believe Christ is everything (Galatians 5:5-6)?

Stand Firm – Beware of Spiritual Kidnappers (Galatians 5:7-12)
The damage false teachers do?
We teach our children to identify kidnappers so does Paul
How should false teachers be treated?

Description

Galatians 4:12-31
Paul was passionate about the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. False teachers have messed with the minds of the early Christians in the Roman province of Galatia convincing them that in addition to Christ they need to keep certain rules regulations and Jewish laws in order to be properly saved. In this passage Paul puts his life on the line to help the converts in the Galatia churches to see that they can be free of all such requirements by simply sticking to the Gospel message he originally proclaimed to them.

Description

I do not nullify the grace of God for if righteousness were through the law then Christ died for no purpose.Galatians 2:11-22; Galatians 2:11-22
We can live in such a way that we make out as though Christ died for nothing. By rebuilding rules and requirements to try to gain righteousness before God we set aside the grace of God effectively turn away from the right standing we have before God through Christs death on the cross.

Description

Galatians 2:1-10
There are spies in the church. They will tell you they are on the side of good but they are rogue agent serving the enemy and their own appetites. How do you resist spies who want to drag you into legalistic slavery and away from Gospel freedom. This passage outlines a defining moment in the history of the early church. The potential for a church split was huge. The stakes were high. Watch how the Apostle Paul avoids giving in to these spies for even a moment!
